Rail

Many of the features of our system as described in the roads section above, are applicable to use in the rail and light rail industries. Our system can easily be mounted on an inspection car for use by a rail management authority.

Detail views can be established showing the rail, sleeper and ballast condition. An array of landscape views can be established allowing the creation of panoramic views covering the entire rail reserve.

The image below shows the approach to a level crossing in a rural town setting. A database of all level crossings along a line can be quickly established allowing instant desktop assessment of road / rail interaction.

panoramic view of approach to level crossing

The next image shows a closer view of the level crossing, allowing more detailed inspection of traffic control equipment. On screen measurements can be made of such things as:

  • distance from stop line to rail tracks
  • road lane widths
  • area of asphalt at crossing
  • setback of traffic control devices from traffic lanes

The next image shows a detailed view of the pavement surface across the level crossing. This would be useful for condition assessment of the level crossing pavement surface.

In this instance we might be looking for:

  • asphalt deformation
  • gap between asphalt and tracks
  • cracking or general degradation of asphalt material
  • evidence of poor drainage
  • evidence of frequent maintenance work

The important thing to remember is that this kind of imagery can be available instantly to your desktop, any time you want to look at it, for any reason at all and with complete coverage of your network.

Please feel free to contact us if you would like to explore the possibilities of how you might make use of this technology on your network.
